The Terrazul Institute has elected a new president

On the General Extraordinary Assembly of the Terrazul Institute, on 23rd of March, 16 associate members of the Institute have decided about changes in the statute of the organization, elected the new board of directors for the next period of two years and accepted the inscription of new partners. Raquel Maria Rigotto, Professor, was cheered the new president; Eurípedes Antônio Funes was elected as Administrative Director, and Adelaide Gonçalves, Professor, as Technical Director. Maria do Socorro Gonçalves and Neusa Barbosa are now Executive Secretaries of the Institution.

Alternative Association Terrazul, is the new name of the Institute. Its mission is to contribute to a reflection about our future, both as citizen and as species living on the Planet Earth. Terrazul aims also to extend the discussions about environment issues, linking them to their economic and political causes, as well as to fortify the struggle for a worthy life, a healthy future and a new civilization model, which respects the environment.

The Assembly has also accepted new member associates: Temístocles Marcelo, coordinator of the Brtazilian Forum of NGOs and Social Movements for Environment and Development Brasileiro de ONGs e Movimentos Sociais (FBOMS) and Marcela Escribana, from Canada.

Brief Historical

The Terrazul Institute was created as a socio-environmental organization in 1999. It is based in Fortaleza, in the State of Ceará, Brazil. In the year 2000, Terrazul began a partnership with the Syndicate of Rural Workers of Marco, with Cepema Foundation and Alternatives, of Canadá. In 2001, the partnership with the Federação dos Trabalhadores em Comércio e Serviço do Estado do Ceará has resulted in some courses of environmental education for workers and inhabitants of the districts of the Great Fortaleza and the coast of Ceará.In the year 2002, Terrazul was affiliated to the Brazilian Network for the People Integration (Rebrip). In 2003, at the Social Mundial Forum, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Terrazul has performed two workshops about culture and environment, and it also promoted discussions about eco-socialism. In 2004, Terrazul has performed workshops, seminaries, talkshows and theater, within the activities of the Environment Program, sponsored by Petrobrás.

This year Terrazul has continued the Educational Program for Conscious Consumers, performing workshops in Fortaleza, and organizing the II National Meeting and the International Seminar of the Local Agendas 21, at the Social Mundial Forum, in Porto Alegre, Brazil. A Network Program and the workshops were extended to the municipalities of Maranguape, Quixadá, Iguatu, Tianguá, Crato and Sobral.
